BIOGRAPHY

Ciara Foster is a graduate of The National College of Art and Design in Dublin where she received a first class honours degree in Textile design, specialising in embroidery. She also completed an MA in Design at NCAD in 2003. She has had solo shows and has also been involved in many group shows at home and abroad.

Ciara has been on various art residencies. In 2004 she was awarded an Arts Council Travel Award to travel to Hall Farm Art Center in Vermont. She was Artist in Residence at Draiocht Art Centre in Blanchardstown, Dublin for six months, and she was also one of five artists in residence in Roundstone in Connemara for two weeks in June 2005. In 2009 she was Artist in residence at Aras Eanna, on the Aran Island of Inis Oirr. She was also awarded a one month fellowship to The Vermont Studio Arts Centre in Johnson Vermont in 2009. In 2012 she was an Artist in residence at Cill Rialaig, Ballinskelligs in County Kerry.

She has also worked in schools and Art centres, running workshops and teaching art to adults and children.

Her approach to art has always been very varied. Both drawing and working in 3-d has always been an important part of her work.  Her sculptures are made from found and natural materials. Her 2d work ranges from conventional materials to a more mixed media approach. She also makes handmade artists books and cards.
